Interior door panels

Post by BarryG »

Probably as a result of our summer in Florida heat, the 'leather' on my door panels has bubbled and is coming away from the door. I presume this is the glue used by Volvo(?). Do I just take it to a body shop and they know what to do to fix? Or is there any way I could do it myself?
Thanks
Barry

Common problem with first generation 70 series volvo's. There used to be replacement panels you could get at the dealer but for a very hefty price. Volvo discontinued these about 2 years ago. The best option is to take them out and then take them to a reuholstery shop and let them put some new material of your choosing over them. You can't use a syringe and shoot glue into them and try to fix them yourself. It's the actual foam under the fake leather that's deteriorated. Hope this helps. The passenger side front panel on my S70 is just starting to do this, and I'm living with it for now.

Thanks, I guess I'll live with it for a while too :( I foresee the problem of matching the material if and when i decide to get an upholstery shop to look at it. aaarrrgghhh!!!

Barry, look for 1998-2000 V70R door panels, they're different, and don't bubble.

Bump ....

I was wondering where I would be able to find door panels for a '98 S70 T5. I just came from the volvo dealership. While I was there I asked about the price of interior door panels for this car.

746.00 for the front pair
765.00 for the rear pair.

This sucks. There has to be a place where these are much cheaper. Any help is appreciated.

You can't find matching vinyl so upholster them in a contrasting cloth or valour, looks great

I have (had) a complete set of factory repair inserts in charcoal
I have 3 door kits left, I used the driver's panel so both rears and the front pass. door
if you can use charcoal $25 each plus shipping
(They're very light so shipping should be cheap)

We are working on a sturdy but simple and inexpensive repairkit called PANELPADS to solve this problem WITHOUT having to remove the panels of your car. We found the working principle already, still working on the finishing touch, and we will ship overseas. This noble car deserves a solution to this issue, in our Wolvengang network we drive 3 of them. You can get more information on:

http://www.wolvengang.com/#!commitment-english/oj5uu

Or follow this project on Twitter #panelpads.

ATTENTION! Do NOT try to glue the vinyl back on the panel in whatever way unless you are an absolute upholstery professional! It will do more harm than it will help. Finding 'R' panels can be a solution too, if you can find them. A complete new panel upholstery will do as well but this is gonna cost you: time and money.
