Need photo of fuel pressure regulator on fuel rail
Fuel Pressure Dampener

I was just wondering if I should replace this about 20 minutes ago. I'm sending my injectors out for a professional cleaning.

That is a fuel pressure damper. They look very similar but this is towards the middle and has no lines on it. It is simply a diaphragm chamber that stabilizes fuel pressure peaks and dips as injectors open/close.
I do not have a car here to take a photo of but your FPR is in a similar place on the fuel rail . It will have a vacuum line attached.

I think you're saying your engine has the same part as mine. This one doesn't have a vacuum line going to it. I thought the pressure damper just unscrewed from the fuel rail, but I just tried, and it didn't.ClayBubb wrote:PS, my non-turbo 850 only has the aforementioned fuel pressure damper. If that were it, it would truly be a booger to yank off a vac tube & put it back on!!

I didn't think 97 n/a's had it relocated.
Look down behind engine on passenger side, it must be in the line there.
The 97 GLT's had it there and a damper usually is used on remote FPR applications due to hydraulic ugly stuff a long column of fuel causes.

Fuel heating is a bad guy for hydrocarbon emissions. Hot fuel evaporates too much and exceeds the capacity of a reasonable sized charcoal canister. Not recirculating fuel from rail was the first effort, second was moving FPR back by fuel tank, the final one is controlling fuel pump speed to keep the pressure controlled.
