Another C 70 question please....performance related

Post by nic walker »

Hi again...

I drove the girlfriends (we) to Waynesboro Va. from Richmond Va this last weekend (about 100 miles + touring the Blue Ridge Parkway :) ) and the C 70 could be a dream of a car to own....BUT under hard and light power it has a hesitation. I have mentioned this to the girlfriend on previous trips and she has taken it to Mooers Volvo in Richmond who perform some repair or adjustment to resolve this problem but it comes back. It is the L model (less HP).

I personally own several Reattas and frequesnt that forum frequently and have great success on repair questions and problems, and am hoping this forum will provide similar help.

Is there a repair (shop) manual available for the C70 L model and if so where can it be obtained please? I am assuming that the surging / hesitation on her car is possibly a fuel/air adjustment that can be performed outside of the dearlership....or at least wishing that it is :) .

Can some one advise please?

Mayn thanks,

Nic

What year C70 is it? '99-'01 has the dreaded ETM...not saying that is the issue but possible. Also, could be some small vacuum leaks or beginning of a MAF sensor issue...so many possibilities. No fault codes?

Thanks for the reply MIJ :) ,

The C70 is a 2003 "L" (or small engine/less powerful model).. I guess you can tell I don't know much about the car by that description

Anyway, I am able to repair or replace many items, but just need some basic knowledge or know where to find information etc. For example I have a code checker for GM models but doubt it will work on a Volvo....need to know where to and how to read codes, where the performance related vacuum lines are, and where to buy a factory manual for a C70. Could use some examples of poor performance actions = what component replacement necessary or if it is always OK to pester the forum with these types of questions? Oh, what should I look for or try to do to eliminate the possiblilty of a MAF being corrupt please?

One other symptom on the current problem>>>>I can not get "passing gear :) " if that is what it should probably NOT be called (or the turbo doesn't kick in at highway speeds all of the time) >>> intermittently. This is along with the severe hesitation under power.

Thanks,

Nic

2003...hmmm, is warranty period over? If not, the dealer should deal with the issues and not you. Most of us here don't know much about the newer cars, much less the C70. We assume it's similar to ours, but to be honest, it may be totally different, such as where the MAF sensor is, etc. Sorry but I'm going to let someone more knowledgeable answer. As far as the manual goes, however, I would recommend you look for a DVD VADIS disc on eBay. Make sure it's new enough to cover this car and it has the enable code with it. This is what the Volvo dealer used until last year when they switched to a new software diagnostic and parts program.

Thanks for the reply Underlord,

Could you possible tell me where to look for the leak. I assume the boost is the turbo...correct? And should I be looking for some rubber vacuum lines running to or around the turbo please? Now all that is also assuming that I can figure out where it is and what the turbo looks like ......  :)
