01 S60 with gas smell
I've got an 01 S60 2.4T that seems to have developed a gas smell that is pretty strong on the passenger side of the car. I've already taken the backseat out of the car to check around the fuel pump and it's not leaking. The lines don't seem to be leaking either. There doesn't seem to be a gas leak from what I can see. Are there any other parts I should maybe look at like the fuel filter or another possible spot where gas could be leaking.

Yes, my 2001S60 2.4T developed a leak under the passenger seat. It was the fuel filter, which is right there on the underside. It rusted out and the leak got progressively worse. Its super easy to change and a new one from the dealer is only like $30.
In my case, the leak progressed enough where it was dripping on the driveway.
Gas evaporates quickly so you may not notice fluid pooling underneath until it is really bad (like mine).
I would confidently guess its your fuel filter.

I thought at least some '01 S60 had a fuel pump recall (or just a service bulletin?). Seems like some plastic part in the fuel pump commonly cracks. When my '01 S60 T5 developed the same fuel smell (in the same place), the dealer replaced the fuel pump for free under this program.

I'll have to tear down into the fuel pump I guess. Is there a way to maybe just get a hold of the plastic piece? I highly doubt they will replace it for free since the cars 13 years old now.

Remove the backe seats and you'll see access window bolted on the floor. Remove bolts and cover to see if fuel pump is leaking. If it is then call your dealer to check if it's still covered by the recall.

Did you ever get a letter about it? I think I got the letter within the last 2-3 years, so I assume it would still be covered.

I bought the car used back in 2010 so I never got a letter. Also it is leaking gas around the pump so looks like I'm gona have to replace it. Are there any pumps out there that are built better then the OEM's?

Are there any epoxies or other materials that could plug the hole? It would be a lot cheaper this way. I've look at it and the hole is pretty small but it's inside the circular piece that protrudes through the top of the pump.

Really like the help I've gotten here. Has anyone had any experience with the part numbers on these pump. The model number on my pump is 8649681.
Which I've looked everywhere and the part is no where to be found. The only ones I can find are the ones that look like this that are the only ones that come close.
Are the two possible interchangeable?
