Will '94 965 front seats fit a '92 940?

Post by pehoffer »

I have a 92 940gl non-turbo sedan. Will the front seats from a '94 965 wagon fit? They look the same at first glance (electric and leather). But maybe I'm missing something. Is there book or pdf that shows these kind of cross references?

Thanks.

They will fit. I can't remember if the 92 will have the additional wire the memory seat uses on the 960 seat. Was the original seat a memory position seat?

Yes, the original seat has the 3 memory positions.

Direct swap.
If you haven't removed 700/900 seats then you are in for an experience. There is a mushroom head pin on each seat rail that goes into a keyhole slot in floor. Slide seat forward about 3/4 inch then pull up. If the seat goes left or right then the pin hangs.
Take several deep breaths and keep trying. It will come out.

An experience it was. The seat was all the way back so I couldn't get to the rear bolts. One of the motors had broken so it was also twisted in the tracks. I had to disassemble the seat from the side rails so I could get to the bolts. It took about 2 hours. There's probably a better way to do it, but I was in a junkyard and had no way to search the internet. But I got a leather seat with no tears for $30. Next week I will put it in. Hopefully that will be much easier.

Thanks for your help.
