How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

98 C70 Misfiring at Full Throttle / ARD Tune Inquiries

Post by JxKenny »

1998 C70 2.3HPT
Mods:
Replaces stock muffler with a HiFlow Magnaflow muffler, Mandrel bent pipe.
Glowshift Boost/Vacuum Gauge
Voodoo III Ceramic Ball MBC

I am misfiring at full throttle! I first had the MBC at 15psi, which i know is high, than i turner it down to like 13.5, both misfire at full throttle at about 4k RPMs. I put in iridium sparkplugs, still misfired, re-gapped the old(But Fairly New) NGX V Power Copper sparkplugs and it STILL misfired. The question is, is it because my ECU isnt tuned for that much boost and is unable to handle the boost or is perhaps going into 'safe mode' or is it my ignition system?
Also, my car is pretty stock as you can see, I am looking into getting an ARD Tune, should I go for White or Orange? Should I do any other Mods before I get the Tune? Thanks Brahs.

Also, Why are the ARD tunes cheaper on SNAAB than ARDTUNING?

Misfire sounds like fuel cutoff... injectors can't keep up or measurements are outside parameters and ECU reacts by cutting fuel. I get it at higher speeds, WOT. Don't know other questions' answers. Maybe others will.

It varies by tuner. ARD charges $55 for an ECU.

Hard to say for sure why the misfire is occuring but I'd look really closely at all tune up components including cap/rotor and plug wires. I've spent more time than I like to admit trying to tune around a failing distributor cap.... :?

As for Snabb pricing, his pricing is lower to encourage sales to go through them. That way I can keep my focus where it belongs, in R&D and development!

Let us know what you find!
