wheel stud repair/replace...? 1997 965

While r/r the rear brakes, I stripped the wheel stud (one, possibly two - I love the impact gun, but ya gots to be careful).

Would you repair this with a thread repair kit or replace?

If replacing: must the axle be removed or can I knock it out and repair with axle in place?
