Can I put a power seat in where my non-power seat was?

Post by brennan626 »

I have a 99 s70 and I just bought another one with a blown head gasket to fix and sell. My car does not have a power driver's seat and the one I just bought does. So, i was wondering if there is anyway to put the power seat in my car and the manual seat in the other one. Thanks.

You could examine the underside of each to see if there is a connector for power in the non-power car BUT, be there may be a lot more involved if there's an air bag in the seat that has power etc. Someone with more intimate knowledge will chime in.

usually it is an easy and direct swap but rmmagow hit the key: check the connectors in the car with the power seat, then look under your seat and see if they are all there. Some base models, in some years, do not have the connectors. Air bags should be the same but I am not an expert on that one.

Disconnect the battery if swapping seats to avoid the dreaded SRS code. The orange wire with green connector is the SRS airbag connector.

If the donor car is '99 or 2000 you'll be fine.

The unused connector for power seats was there when I converted my base '99V70 to power seats.

Undo the 4 X torx screws on the panel behind the fuse box. Position 29 & 30 are vacant and should be filled by metal housed fuses (not sure which one is left fuse and which one is right) to get power to your power seat connector.

Those metal things that look like fuses are actually auto-resetting circuit breakers. So don't worry about matching an amperage rating, just pick up circuit breakers of the proper size and you are good to go. Any auto parts store will have them (or the junk yard!).

The breaker positions are hidden under the housing as described by precopster; they are actually positions 39 and 40 depending on which seat(s) gets the power:

slot 39 - driver's side
slot 40 - passenger's side
