96 850 T5 wagon immobilizer question

I bought a replacement (supposed to work the same but new and different) remote for my car, which never came with one. I have not been able to program it through the usual means.

The alarm arms with the key, the dash light flashes, and I can trip it if I open the door with it armed. I think I had read somewhere that the hatch lock might prevent the system from arming to the point where it would allow the fob to be programmed.

Does the rear lock have the capability to unlock and lock the doors like one of the two door locks does? IE: I turn it twice to lock/unlock all the doors? I can do that from both front locks but not the hatch. The hatch power lock works fine but the key in the hatch only unlocks that lock.

My rear lock acts just the same like driver's & passenger's locks.All of them locks & unlocks the whole car.

Huh... wonder what's broken in the hatch to keep it from working.

The only other variable I can come up with is that if I unlock the hatch with the key and the immo is on, it disables the alarm. So somehow that zone is partially working.

The most common problem is in the wire harness, wires breaking.
