After much deliberation with MVS DIYers, see .../viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34806&start=28
I am choosing 1/4" left-handed drill bit to extract, drill out the stripped T40 from t-stat upper housing. The fuel line on disconnected at the rail, sealed and protected.
Any word of caution for before of after this task?

No, just drill the head of the bolt off. Once the head is free, take the housing off and remove the rest of the bolt with vice grips or something. Do not try to drill the entire bolt out.

T-stat works fine.
Since I have water pump replacement at hand, conditions are just right to replace the stripped T40.
If thermostat fails, it will fewer steps to replace. I have a blue box.
I will slide and screw in the stopper, and won't drill pass the head depth.

I just replaced my tstat last weekend.
Watch out for falling debris (crumbling gasket), put a rag in there to catch debrios.

Using oil does make drilling not only smooth, it keeps the shavings together. I still have shank to pull out.
