? Drilling hole in Poly Mount (Upper Torque Mount)

Post by cn90 »

I have had this POLY mount (Upper Torque Mount) now for 7 years.
- For the most parts, it is fine during driving.
- Once in a while at idle, it shakes a bit (more than factory mount). Not bad and tolerable but I want to make it a bit better...

I have come across a post where people drill holes in the POLY Mount to reduce vibration:
http://volvoforums.com/forum/engine-int ... iew-34767/

If you look at factory mount, it has void on the FRONT and BACK sides to allow the engine to rock back and forth a bit (YELLOW arrow).

My question is: has anyone here drilled holes in the POLY Mount yet, any feedback?

I replaced mine on my 2002 V70, 130,000 miles. I used an OEM part from the dealer. It was very quick and easy to do. There is a youtube video showing how to do it. It was very simple.

That is not my question, my question is: has anyone drilled holes in the POLY?

The OEM does not last long, this is why people go with POLY. But POLY has its own problems (vibration to some people).

Check your lower torque mount. A solid upper mount plus a worn lower mount will cause vibration.
Ambitious but rubbish

+1. Look at the other mounts.

Thanks,

Actually I just received the LOWER Trans Torque Mount (Hutchinson brand) today.
I ordered from rmeuropean.com.

I will post a follow-up.

I returned Hutchinson lower trans mount and installed Volvo's. When compared, Hutchinson will twist and bent, very soft against volvo's.I was looking for a five year ride.

I thought Hutchinson is OEM?

Anyway, I may fill in the void with some polyurethane caulking.

Pick up a Volvo. I would like your feedback. DIYers can't be pennywise and poundfoolish.

Actually the Hutchinson Trans Torque Mount has a section all scratched out, I am sure this is where the Volvo logo goes in, but Hutchinson scratched it out for legal reason.

So when you buy Hutchinson, you buy Volvo.

On the same topic, if anything ever goes out, it is the smaller bushing near the trans.
If this ever goes bad again, I will do the $5 fix LOL:
