took my s80 in to a shop for timing belt check, not one I recommended but they were open on weekends and I traded at that location before they were bought out. the employees were the same and I was assured nothing had changed except the name. so they say there was no way to check it so I said give me a price on timing belt and belt tensioners.being I recent;y purchased this car and didn't want to be replacing broken of bent vales in the event of a timming belt failure. I was shocked it was like 972.00, they only charged me 500.00 and some change on my s70 and I had a water pump installed too. so I called a Volvo dealer and he quoted me 475.00

not sure if I can mention the company, I would say do your homework, I would do it myself but me and timing don't get along

It may not be as crazy as you think. One shop may be quoting serpentine belt and tensioner, timing belt, water pump, new coolant, and the timing belt idler as well as tensioner. The other may be quoting t belt and the tensioner but not even the fixed timing belt idler.
If you call both and ask what gets replaced and you do an even comparison the results may be way different. OR that shop IS ripping people off as you think now.

I did some research and found a Volvo dealer believe it or not will do the work for 475.00. and another shop shop, one I recommended can do it for 300.00. the shop I was looking at charges 99.00 an hr that's why they were so high. hard to believe a Volvo dealer is cheaper than a general shop.

My indy's rate is $65.00. They will let you bring your own parts but won't warranty the parts, just labor. TB/WP/etc on my V70 ran about 600 total because i was then able to afford all blue box for the job.

I've seen labor costs around here at $95/hr. Definitely not unheard of.

$300 isn't a bad deal for that work - just make sure they are replacing all the same parts.

Take away lesson: always shop around - for everything!
