Is the PNP switch a neutral safety?
Is the PNP switch a neutral safety?
The starter on my 95' 850T sometimes won't crank until I move the shift lever back and forth a few times. This seems to me like a classic neutral safety switch problem. Is this switch the same part as the "PNP" switch on top of the tranny that I see mentioned so often in 850 forums? There are no other problems with the transmission.
More or less it is amongst other things, you don't say where you are, if you are in good old US of A you can get them new pretty cheap, or you feel up to it pull it out and clean it up (bit fiddly to do though) sometimes works sometimes doesn't, if you've done a few miles/kms it will show quite a bit of wear.

I replaced the original Volvo with a Scan Tech one (looked exactly the same to me) and seems ok and @ $80US from FCP Groton for you seems good value compared to $110US for a Volvo one.Pauly wrote:Cocka,
I am in the U.S. and it looks like the part is about $100 (U.S.) Do you mean that this part is also a neutral safety switch? I think I will replace it with a new one after going through the trouble to remove it.
