850T still has 2-3-1 code

Post by Pauly »

My 95' 850 turbo wagon still has a 2-3-1 code in socket A2. After the code is cleared, it will appear again after a few highway miles. I was advised to look for vacuum leaks, and am unable to find any, including the elbow hidden near the power steering pump. The cruise control also does not work, and I noticed that the cruise control thingy under the battery has a nipple without a vacuum line on it. I replaced the front O2 sensor with a universal part recently, to clear up some other codes. Any Ideas?

It should not be just an exposed nipple (oolalaa!). That's the reason your cruise doesn't work. I'd say the vacuum hose there deteriorated or fell off....look for it in the area below there. Anyway, the hose needs to be re-fitted to the cruise control module (where the nipple is).

In regards to your other code, did the 02 sensor replacement help at all? I know some people were getting wrong part numbers and putting the wrong one in. Might be best to double check that.

On a separate but related note, have you seen the sticky at the top of the 850/70 series page on this site? You can download your car's maintenance manual for free. It would be well worth you doing this.

I will look again to find where the vacuum line went. I did download the manual, and it looks good. I saw that there is even a vacuum line diagram.

The O2 sensor cured the codes (can't remember) that indicated the cat may have been bad. It did help the problem, but maybe it is not quite the right part. I did pass a smog test during a time right after I reset the check engine light!
