Sunshade won't close on 02 XC70

Post by MILLSJE »

My sunroof works fine, however the shade currently stuck in the open position and I can't open my sunroof or it will get stuck, so I use the vent position now. I can force it closed by pulling really hard, but a terrible screaching happens, and it seems to be off track at times.

Is this something relatively easy to fix, since I've only gone as far as changing a headlight :) If someone could post instructions, that'd be lovely.

Thanks for your time.

I have a 2002 V70, 135,000 miles. That happened to me. I replaced the guides on top of the sunshade. The old ones were ruined and one damaged the accordion shade. There is a youtube video showing it. It was very easy to fix. The guides were only US$6.50 each from the dealer, I bought two. I replaced the broken one and the one that still worked. Figuring it may break in the near future. I also had some separation of the cloth from the shade. I used some all purpose glue and tightend up the sunshade. It works like a charm now.

On the attached, I show a picture of the damaged guide and the good guide. For reference, the screw is into the top of the sunshade. The guide is supposed to be flush alongside the accordion shade. The damaged one snapped and extended into the accordion shade and ripped it to pieces. If you think your accordion shade is damaged, pick one up at the dealer when you get the guides. If you are not sure, get one anyway and return it if you don't use it. I'm a frequent customer so they don't charge me a restocking fee. Better to have the parts on hand if you need it than pulling the sunroof out, reassembling it, going to the dealer, then taking it apart again. Just my opinion. It's easy to fix. Good luck

This looks helpful and easy. Thank you.

Do I only need to order the guides to fix this issue? I was just wondering about the grey metal piece the guide is, or springs?
