Hello all,
I am am new to this site and have recently inherited this car from my in-laws. When they gave it to my wife it was making a squeaky belt noise which was the belt to the water pump / power steering pump belt.
Here is my issue. There are no bolts holding the power steering pump to the mounting brackets. There is only the lower flange bolt and nut holding the two mounting bracket plates in place. The tension adjustment part is intact and doesn't look damaged and the mounting brackets appear to be straight.
I am looking for a diagram or information what the actual mounting bolts are. I can tell that they are M8x1.25 threads. I think they might be M8x1.25x25mm. Is there supposed to be four bolts ( 2 from the front and 2 from the back ) that mount the power steering pump to the mounting brackets?
A parts diagram showing the power steering pump and bracket assembly would be of great help. If you have any information, I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you,
DonC23

Please see the attachments from VADIS.
Hope this helps you identify the fasteners.
Please let me know if you need more information
Thanks.

Thanks again,
Well, my pump and mounting brackets were different from that in the diagram. My pump looks like this. I concluded that it is mounted with four flange bolts (M8x1.25x16mm) through the mounting brackets. I put a straight edge from the power assist pulley to the crankshaft pulley to check if the mounting plates were bent. Everything lines up and I hope this is how the assembly is supposed to go together.
Now I seem to have another issue. When I got on the freeway at approximately 55-60 mph, the steering wheel had quite a bit of vibration. I drove back home on the side roads and didn't have any vibrations at lower speeds. I have looked at the steering shaft and rack but I do not see anything visibly wrong.
I'm going to go have the wheel balance checked. Maybe I have an alignment problem? If you have any other thoughts or advise I surely appreciate the help
Thank you
Edit. I rechecked the alignment or the power steering pump pulley to the crankshaft pulley and there is a slight angle difference. The two pulleys at the center line are inline but the power pump pulley is at a slight angle. Maybe I have bent mounting plates? It seems to me that a slight difference would likely cause premature belt wear as apposed to heavy vibration at the steering wheel. Any thoughts?

Pump misalignment will surely be causing premature belt wear, even with the possibility of belt 'creeping out' from the pulley; not so sure about causing those vibrations though. Sounds more like balance if it occurs at a certain speed.
Did you check the tie rod ends (inner and outer) and rack for play; I would take a closer look at the ball joints as well.
If you tell me which engine you have, I may be able to pull the VADIS diagram for your exact PS pump arrangement.
Cheers

Hi and thanks,
My best information is that it's a 1991 Volvo 740 (base model), the engine is B230F, and the transmission is AW70.
Hopefully I will get this figured out so I can move on to the transmission not engaging fourth gear.

OK,
These attachments should give you the arrangement for your car. (Note that some of the part numbers in VADIS may be obsolete).

Awesome!!!! Thank you very much.
That diagram is exactly what I am seeing. I noticed that the p/n 16 flange screw has a section of non-threaded shank and the bolts I used do not have that. I had my wife slowly bring up the rpm's in the driveway and somewhere between 2800-3400 rpm's there was pretty heavy vibration.
I think I have to pull the assembly back apart and double check the brackets (p/n 11 and 12) for any deflection and then get the correct bolts.
Thank you very much for helping
