the 35 mpg is a little higher than than us epa estimate of 27 mpg highway.
I can consistently beat the EPA numbers on just about any car I drive.

Expect 17-20 mpg in stop-and-go traffic. These 5-cylinder engines are not nice on gas when accelerating.

That 35 is just a rough estimate; it really depends on how long you cruise and what kind of driver you are. My 35-39 mpg trips where were I was absolutely babying the car. You may average around 25-27; who knows.

The key to getting good MPG is perfecting your driving habits.

There's lots of MPG topics around the site; here's one I started.

The 35 MPG is in an ideal situation where the road is smooth, flat no small or gradual grades, no headwind and you car is in tip top shape. Combined city driving will bring those numbers down considerably to the Mid 20's. As JBlackburn said Stop and Go will bring it down quite a bit. Unless all your destinations are a mile or two from a Freeway and most of travel is on the Freeway expect the EPA or less.

I have a 99 NA with auto. I consistently see 32 MPG (all highway driving). but I live in the midwest and it is flat, flat, flat,

Based on the trip computer ANY grade kills this number.

On truly flat roads at 60 MPH (Cruise on), computer reports 38.
ON a very slight grade (100 feet per mile), drops to 23.

If it is hilly, you will not see 30.

Do you drive many hills in your volvo? I would drive in about 15 km in a uphill situation.
