Here is a thread with good pictures of the hoses at the rollover valve. It is really easy to work on with the fuel filter out.

I had an issue with this cel code on my 98 v70 awd. After changing the gas cap,j tube. yadda yadda I had a hunch that the small inline charcoal filter mounted near the drivers side of the radiator was clogged causing this cel. One day I removed it sprayed some brake cleaner through it and blew out the charcoal dust that was trapped inside. Reset the battery and voila no more cel. The stealers charge 17.00 for this filter. I found an oem for less than 2.00 and changed it out.

I struggled with this for some time as well. I replaced all vacuum lines, gas cap, purge valve etc etc all to no avail. A couple of weeks ago I had a eureka moment and found both lines going to my shutoff valve (see pic) were cracked on the top side so I couldn't see it during my many attempts and inspections.

On my S70 the canister is next to the fuel filter at the back. I removed the whole canister/fuel filter/valve bracket assembly (I was changing the fuel filter anyway) and found the cracks. I was able to just cut a couple inches off each hose - by the way, these hoses are about 5/8" ID, not to be confused with the rollover valve - and reattach everything. Due to the shorter hoses the shutoff valve didn't reach it's attachment point so it got tie wrapped back up. 1000km later, no codes.

My car is a 96, so it does not have this type of shut up valve.
However I got the problem solved some times now: I found out that the short rubber hose off the gas tank going to the inline valve hiding by the fuel filter had a large crack along side of it. The crack was along side the underside of the car, not apparent during a casual visual inspection.
I was relieved when I discovered it as you can imagine. I changed purge valve, the hoses, took out the charcoal canister, you name it!

Thanks for the info. I have to do it this spring but mine (turbo) will enter a ready state after highway miles - just in time to pass emissions provided I don't do any city driving.
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
