2004 XC70 Alarm System

Post by phillyfella »

I've apparently got the same problem reported by countless others regarding the alarm system/module. I started getting Alarm System Needs Service alerts and then, in the middle of the night, the lights would flash (as if there had been an intrusion) for about 10 minutes. I intend to order a new module but in the interim, I've pulled fuse #38 (alarm siren). Will this stop the flashing of lights in the middle of the night or is there a further step to take to immobilize this thing? For what it's worth, the siren does not sound .. nor has it sounded for a couple of years. Sometime back, it would emit a sound more resembling a low moan rather than a siren's wail.
I'm looking to buy time until I have the replacement module that I can install. Thanks for any info on this issue.

The other thing you can do is to unplug the siren module. You would have to protect the plug against water infiltration. But it is the same amount of time to change the module at that point. The fuse removal should do it. I am not sure if you have read this thread on the subject.

Thanks for the input. I did read the thread and am convinced this is a doable job. My problem right now is finding a supplier on the internet for a replacement module. I've pulled fuse #38 in the interim. If it comes to that, I'm assuming the Volvo dealership has the module though they may require the surrender of my firstborn.
