Changing to blue LED lights

Post by laiwilliam »

Which bulbs and site do i purchase to change each individual lights in my 2002 volvo s40 1.9T to blue LED bulbs. I'm looking to changing my dashboard lights for the main 3 and turn signal only. Also for the climate control and the window/door lock and my gear box to blue LED lighting as well.

I am also currently involved in replacing my ECC module backlights and head/parklight switch to suitable alternative LED's.
Thus far I have obtained here in NZ and installed 3-Type. T4. 10mm neo wedge LED's which have a double LED to each plastic base. These are now fitted in the light switch and work well. (I chose to use colour Cool White @ NZ $5 each.)
The ECC module however needs 3 of a longer version with side wings, but with still with a 10mm base. These have metal combo' contacts each side and in line with the side wings, also offering the twist lock securement into the modules circuit board.
Having so far browsed the net here in NZ and beyond it seems no one makes / stocks these longer LED's to fit the module?
Am wondering if anyone knows if the shorter T4's can work in the ECC module also or not?
The supplier of the T4's here has stated that a LED module can be removed from the T4 type and made to fit the longer salvaged plastic base with modification. I am wary of trying this without knowing of it being a widespread acceptable option as I don't want to risk damage to the ECC module.
Seems strange the longer wedge base type are not also commonly available in LED's as an alternative to OEM bulbs that blow extremely regularly it seems?
Also frustrating that basic bulb maintenance can be so costly and alternative parts only partially supplied.
Shipping costs to NZ from US or UK vary but amount to several times the bulb costs despite the LED's being considerably cheaper than OEM filament bulbs. The original Volvo part No.for ECC module is 30618412 in the filament type.
Any feedback most appreciated.
