Re: How to upkeep the S60

Post by Daphne »

Hello John In Florida,
I am just now going through my Volvo Q/A's and want to thank you again for sending (last June)the excel spreadsheet for Volvo care.
I am bumping heads now with a local mechanic re the 2005 S60 not starting after firing up. Fires up and runs, fires up and doesn't run. He is replacing the fuel pump a second time (another new one) to see if that is the problem. I kinda suspect the problem could be elsewhere. Any input gratefully accepted. Will post this problem on the board now. Daphne

So, are you saying the fuel pump has been changed out twice? Has the fuel filter been changed too? Has the mechanic measured the fuel pressure before starting the engine and while it is running? This sounds like a fuel delivery problem. There is a fuel pressure regulator and probably a fuel pressure pulse damper involved here too.
Just for a test, right after it stalls remove the fuel tank cap. If it hisses putlling in air you might have a cap that isn't letting in any air.
