pnp switch replacement

Post by 318mike »

I have a 94 960 147k with the following symptoms. It won't come out of park without pushing the shiftlock button,no backup lights, occasionally it goes into winter mode, and the OBD gives me a 313 code.My question is do all the symptoms point to the pnp switch or do you think I have more than one problem....Thanks in advance.....also is there somewhere i can go to download the procedure to replace the pnp on a 94 960.I have found numerous places that show it on 850's but no 960's

Try backing off the ignition key it could be the ignition switch wearing out.

Have you checked fuse #27?

Transmission code 3-1-3 indicates a problem with the gear position sensor which is not likely to be connected with the PNP switch.

Gear position sensor is part of the PNP switch.

Went to the dealer and on a 94 960 there is a gear selector position microswitch under the console and the pnp is on the transmission itself(billofdurham educated me on this). Does anyone know which controls the backup lights?

I have a 94 960 shifter installed in my 88 765. The only thing electrical that I can remember being mounted to the shifter is the switch that switches the relay to the shift inhibitor solenoid. This switch being part of the button that is pushed to release the shifter to changer gear selection.

That makes sense lummert, that would explain the sticking in park and why i have to use the shiftlock button to get it out of park sometimes,I think I misunderstood what that switch was for.Do you know if there is a backup switch,I can't seem to get the backup lights working

Back-up light switch is part of the PNP switch, which is located on the trans linkage under the car.
