VADIS, VIDA, and Windows 8

Post by Ozark Lee »

Out of pure frustration with the Vista installation on my laptop and my inability to successfully downgrade to XP Pro I downloaded a pre release of Windows 8. After figuring out, more or less, where the flyout menus are I went to work to install VADIS and VIDA.

No problems whatsoever, I didn't even need to go back and screw with resetting the clock.

Edit: Login was fine and vehicle selection worked fine. It cannot link to the data files though so we change that to:

Everything went well up to the point where windows wanted an upgrade to the SQL server from 2005 to 2008 SP3. It can be done but that isn't a free upgrade. I tried to run it anyway and it wouldn't accept the characters for the login.

The site looks good under IE-10 though.

See if you can downgrade to IE8 on Win8, probably can't. Only way I got VADIS to work on Win7 x64 was to ditch IE9 in favor of IE8. I typically use Chrome or FF as a browser, so I could give a flip what version of IE I've got. VADIS on Win7 x64 with IE8 works like a champ.

Same problem here with Win8.

If some samaritan has a working VADIS and could provide me with a pdf of the auto transmission replacement instructions for '96 850 Turbo, I would be most grateful!

I just installed Vida 2013A on Windows 8, the installation hung up a few times but finally, I reset (formatted) the PC & in the 3rd run it finally installed, when I click "vida all in one" IE10 opens & the page stays blank, anyone got an idea?

edit: posted this out of pure frustration, had been hitting the refresh button a couple of times to no success & just for fun kept doing it after posting this. If you hit the refresh button in the browser often enough, eventually ie10 will switch into compatibility mode & open the login page, after that same thing, errors, hitting refresh several times & vida opens in compatibility mode.
Needles to say, I'm sooooooo fed up with win8 & ie10, MS is digging their own hole here...

Thx, Ben

VIDA and IE10 don't play well together. On Windows 7 I can get rid of IE10 and revert to IE9 and it works fine. I saw enough of Windows 8 in the beta test to know that it was not for me so I don't know if the browser can be downgraded in Windows 8 or not.

Windows 8.1 is in beta right now (the start button comes back) but it comes with IE11 and it can't be downgraded.

No, win8 & ie10 sure don't play well with anything, can't downgrade in win8 either, that's what that compatibility mode is for.

Does anyone here know if there is a feasible way for a PC layman to redirect Vida to use another browser like safari or chrome?

I have installed Vmplayer (which is free) on my windows 8.1 laptop and installed Win XP in Vmplayer with about 2.8GB ram. Then installed Vida 2013A on the Windows XP.
Needless to say it runs fine. I do not have the car connector, but I would imagine it would work, since I can print to my laptop printer wirelessly and use usb, cd rom etc thru VMplayers's Windows XP.
I hope this helps anyone stuck with windows 8

There's an entire VM Ware image of a Vida 2012 setup in XP floating around in a link here on Mattews just search: "VM Ware Image" and it should come up. Mine is still running after almost 12 months of use; no bugs as yet.
