i really think this is a unique problem and i have spent about four days working on the problem so I hope my issue deserves its own thread.
the issue is happening to a 1973 1800es b20f that i have owned for about a week and is/was my only mode of transportation. the car had not been registered since 2000 when i got it. The car and I live happily together in south texas.
It will run as long as i keep rpms over 2 grand but will smoke from a crack in the 2/3 runner of the exhaust manifold and from under the manifold. I have removed the manifold and cant find any more cracks. The 2/3 runner would glow red hot before i got the car, but wasnt cracked.
when it first died it would bog down and if i pulled off the road it would come back to life, after about the 3rd bog down it would not revive itself
some good stuff: all cylinders are at 150-155 psi compression, strong spark, injectors spray the 'spec' amount of fuel, resistance checks from the ecu wiring harness all proved good, adjusted the valves today, all but 1 and 8 were off by around .05 (is this enough to prevent it from idling?)
some bad stuff: when it first died i noticed one of the hoses from the aux air valve was torn in half, when i got the car there was no hose on the flame trap, the day it died i spent a buttload on tires at discount tire and when i picked it up the battery was dead. It had never died before, but they claimed it was dead when they got it. Swapped out the battery and it crankeds really well every time.

Did you check to make sure your exhaust is not plugged? How long did it set? Critters can make nests in there if sits too long. Did you flush the fuel system? Keep checking all your vaccum hoses as they can cause this sort of thing. Are you losing fluids of any kind?
This is D-jet correct?
