Where to locate jack stand...

Post by xHeart »

I appears placing jack stand under subframe would not allow the subframe to fall for replacing it's bushing. So I ask how to take on this task with safety?

The side rails under the front of the doors. Put a tire right up under there as well in case it falls.

That would be one side, like changing a tire.
The instruction says to raise the car and loosen the four subframe bolts evenly, quarter turn till the subframe is lowered some 1/2". Then undo and replace one bushing at a time.
I would assume the entire front may need to be raised, like an oil change scenario, if not the entire car.

The best reference is the one posted by billofdurham. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50950. Are there more?

You have two jack stands right? Put one under each door. Lift by the subframe bar in the middle.

I hope you have an actual floor jack and aren't using that Volvo piece of junk. The car will fall off that thing and kill you.

Yes. A 2-1/2 ton floor jack to raise, and two 3 ton jack stands to keep it there. A small 2 ton trolley jack.
Once raised and jack stand placed safely under the door-rail, do i lower the floor jack and pull it out from underneath the subframe?

This is a timely post. I'm in the middle of a tranny swap myself.

Under the door there should be a cutout along the frame that fits a jackstand perfectly. Not sure if this is the "correct" location but it's been holding since about noon today.

xHeart, not to change subject, but in your other posts, your subframe bushings at 120K look fine to me.
I see no need to replace your subframe bushings.

Yep, just like wheelsup showed! See his tires placed under the frame as well in case it falls?
