Hi everyone,
I visited the 1998 T5 yesterday and did the following:
1. Rowed the shifter back and forth
2. Lubricated the shift override button
3. took the steering column cover off and gave the ignition a good rap
4. tried 2 keys-both work in the door, and pounded them in.
All to no avail. Next I would like to do the screwdriver trick that has been mentioned-how do I do this? I need to get the thing home!
I have also charged the battery to double check and will try playing around with the PNP, which probably means rapping it and hoping for the best.
Thanks again everyone,
Randy

Remove the 4 torx screws that hold the collar around the steering column and the ignition key cylinder. On the left hand side of the column, directly across from the ignition key cylinder, is a large, roundish, plug that is held on with two Phillips head screws. Remove the screws and the plug and then use a screwdriver to operate the ignition. All to no avail. Next I would like to do the screwdriver trick that has been mentioned-how do I do this? I need to get the thing home!
Avoid pulling the back of the switch off or you will wind up with a pile of wires that are a puzzle to get back into their respective sockets.
Obviously, the steering wheel needs to be unlocked .

It is simple:
1. Again, make sure your battery is fully charged.
2. Review the wiring diagram for Starting Circuit for your 1998 T5. The Starter Circuit is on page 108:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/downlo ... _Coupe.pdf
3. To jump the starter the "ghetto way", all you need is to bring power to green wire at the back of the Starter.
Get an alligator clip jumper wire and clip onto the green wire metal part.
Touch the other end of the alligator clip to the RED cable post (Red Circle) on the starter motor (This is the direct feed from the Battery). The starter should start, if not, then your starter motor went to heaven:

Thanks-out to give all of this a try. cn90-it seems like you may have the Starter Motor and Solenoid backwards in the text? I will be jumping the red to green on back of the solonoid correct?
Unfortunately my internet connection means hours for the handy download.
Thanks again-will definitely have to make a donation to the side in honor of you all!
