So, my turbo is definitely in need of a rebuild as it is letting oil pass through and burn and smoke. It is the mitsubishi turbo (not sure the model # but it's from a '90 744). What would be the best for quality and most economical way to rebuild this?
I want to do it myself, but if it involves machining, I do not have any tools to do that. Is there a recommended rebuild kit anyone has found for these turbos? What all do the rebuild kits involve?
Secondly if it does involve machining I was thinking about taking it to a place that works on big rigs and asking them to rebuild it once I take it out of the car. Would this be worth the extra money to have someone else do this?
Thanks!
Travis

This is more than likely a TD04 but just make sure as there is a plate identifying which model it is once you clean the grease off.
There are many resellers of kits out there. Once you have it apart you need to check for shaft and housing damage; not too difficult to do. If you don't have the skills or tools buy some and have a go anyway. There's not that many pieces to them.
Once you place it in the hands of a pro expect to spend much bigger money.
