Oil pressure failed on me (volvo magic gasket sucked into strainer). So, pulled the pan and replaced the oil pan seals.
Also: PCV (currently in pieces), timing belt replacement, ABS module broke, and ETM sets off the ETS light at least half the time. Cruise control also just stopped working.
And a bunch of other little stuff. All in the first 1000 miles of ownership. Ouch. 98k miles. So far I've had all the classic big $$$ failures so hopefully from here on out I'll be alright.
What has failed on your 1992-2000 FWD or AWD Volvo?

If it was, I would add my vote as well.dbjamin wrote:Tensioner. I'm on engine #2.
Recommend adding that part.
I was driving for the last year with an unusual and abstract knocking noise from the front of the engine in the pulley areas. at first I imagined the serp belt was the culprit. After doing the timing belt and pulleys last week, I found the hydraulic tensioner was leaking after I compressed it, so the plastic clip on the tesioner likely saved my engine. The noise is now gone, and I believe the odd knocking was the tensioner pulley bouncing randomly.
By the way Matt, I can still not add to the list. You may have fixed it for everyone else, but since I voted before the fix, I guess I am out of luck. No big deal, I may chime in from time to time with a new failure.

I actually have a door latch that has jammed and will not let the door open from the inside or out.

Adding some more to the list:
gas flap hinge
upper motor mount
ETM finally failed completely
center console cover and front seat covers both fell apart
door panels separating, and leather pulling away from elbow rest (how annoying)
one or two window switches
power seat won't go fwd/backward but other functions work (I suspect the switch)
antenna mast
thermostat
ignition switch cylinder requires the magic touch to turn
cup holder
spring seats
Coming soon:
turbo has tons of shaft play and may be the reason for my smoking problem (pcv job already done)

I've also had to replace a U joint that rendered my AWD useless and resulted in a horrible clicking noise every time I drove anywhere, along with a power cable to the fuse panel and fuel pump relays/wiring. That one was fun to discover at midnight trying to go home.
I have had my 850 turbo was only a few months now and I have replaced:
1. Water pump
I need to replace:
1. Tires
2. Alignment
3. Oil lines
4. Rear light bulb
5. Whatever fan noise is happening now
6. The HVAC fan not working now in 11 degree weather
7. Dash board needs to be replaced or re glued
8. Passenger side air bag cover
9. Glove box broke a hinge yay...
