Sad day, Volvo totaled!

Post by cn90 »

Sad day, Volvo totaled! Car is old so I only have liability insurance.

I was at intersection pulling out from a stop, turning left. Dodge Ram 1500 hit me @ Left Front wheel. It was dark and I believe the Dodge Ram did not have his headlight on.
Immediately after the collision, I was OK but hazed for a few seconds (momentarily confused), throttle cable jammed (see pic), engine rpm revved to 4000-5000 rpm.
In the moment of confusion, I did not know why the engine revved to 4000-5000 rpm (see pic with throttle cable jammed), I stepped on the brake like crazy. Had I known this (cable jammed), I'd have turned the key off.

I managed to stop the car after 1/2 mile, stepping on the brake like crazy.

Anyway, car totaled. Thanks God I am still alive (right knee hurts but otherwise OK).

-------
BTW, the car has been meticulously maintained. There are many new parts: Bilstein TC, Coolant Reservoir/Cap, thermostat, ECT etc. etc.

Here are the questions for the guru.
1. What is the value of this car the way it is:
- Junkyard: $_______
- Some DIYer guru from this forum: $_______

I'd like to sell the whole thing as is (I don't have time to pull diff parts from the car).

2. Whoever needs engine/trans (auto), the engine/trans run perfectly at 120K miles.

R.I.P. my beloved Volvo.

Thankfully you are OK. Something that I am often concerned about...the other driver.

I'm so sorry to read this! Glad you are OK.

Tempted to buy your car because you aren't very far away and I know that EVERYTHING you did on it, you did well. But I have no room for another parts car ... if someone parts it, I am interested on some of the pieces.

Thanks erik,

If you want it, then you will need it towed to Iowa.

I hate to give this thing to the junkyard.
I'd rather turn this thing to someone from forum.

Was the other driver not found to be at fault? IF so his insurance company will pay you and take possession of the car or pay you a lesser amount based on average salvage sales price less handling fees for them transacting the disposal taken off the appraised value of the car.

Very happy to hear that you were well protected by your trusty Volvo.
Tragic pic...Such a great looking car. It just sucks when that happens.

On the other hand - Have you given any serious though to finding another '98 and
making it your parts car? Even better if you could find the same color.
Just a thought. Best of Luck, CN!

O' Mr. CN90 you got to get another one, PLEASE!
Would this be a line in an episode of "Leave it to Beaver".

Our prayers are with you cn90.
How about moving to 2005-2007 XC70.
There is a purpose in loss.

Thanks xHeart,

I forgot to mention that there are some new parts...
- Exhaust manifold (OEM Volvo) 1 yr old
- Ignition Switch/Tumbler 1 yr old

Anyway, if someone can take the whole thing as 1 piece, it is better for me...
Maybe I should post in Classified section.

I'm with Jimmy57, the other guys insurance should pay you blue book for the car. That has to be upwards of $3,800. You don't need full coverage unless he didn't have insurance.

Glad you're ok. Sad to see a Volvo smashed like that.
