1993 Volvo 850 AC Controls Will Not Work

I have a 1993 Volvo 850 and the AC controls just suddenly stopped working. When I switch the car on, the lights on the AC panel blink for a short time (the two lights toward the right side of the panel that indicate whether the AC is on and whether the air is being circulated or fresh air is coming from the outside), but that's all that happens.

No matter what I do with the controls, nothing happens.

I have checked the fuses, and as far as I can tell, no fuses are blown.

Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Could be a faulty ECU, a faulty fan motor, a faulty resistor (controls fan speed), a faulty sensor (see Haynes manual).

What happened just before the system failed? Any odd noises or smells?
