FYI Replacing Heater Core on 1998 V70 XC.

To members who have to replace the heater core under the dash on a 1998 V70 XC. Here's my experience. I ordered the replacement core from FCP with two new o-rings, as suggested, for the pipes that attach to core. The o rings (green) that came and were the listed fit for that model looked, however, a little thinner than the ones I took off

I put the new ones on and sure enough the pipes leaked and I could not tighten the screw enough to stop the leak. I drained the system and put the old o-rings (black) back on (they looked in great condition actually) and that stopped the leak and it tightened snug, no leaks. I called FCP to note the different size o-rings on my model as an FYI for their parts inventory info online.

They were super nice, got my VIN and checked for part variations. They found that my specific VIN model did have different size o-rings and promptly sent replacements.

So anyway, I'm just trying give anyone doing this heater core replacement, a heads up to maybe call and give VIN to parts supplier to make sure you get the correct size o-rings.

Incidentally, FCP has been a fantastic parts source. website is easy and sales people great.

Good job! one dealer told me $1600 for a quote to do this! I used the red silicon ones from IPDUSA.com, no leak

It sounds more like FCP drivel to me. The green o rings they sell are well documented leakers.

they sent me the wrong hoses for a pcv job once. I had a 97 850 GLT (known to have the Low Pressure Turbo) I even gave my engine serial number when ordering. They sent me hoses for a NA engine which werent nearly long enough. I live in Texas so no heater core replacements here, just heater core bypass!

Thanks for the feedback. I've had some odd parts experiences with other suppliers. NAPA sent me a right front caliper in a box with the numbers for the left front...twice.??? Advance Auto's oil cooler hose was 2 inches short and had an incorrect bend on the end that went in the oil thermostat.

I now stick with the Volvo parts suppliers like FCP and IPD or the dealer when feasible. It's a jungle out there.
