oil pouring from somewhere above the oil filter

We have a 1998 Volvo s70. When you start the car, oil pours from above the oil filter on the radiator side of the motor. It is not coming from the oil filter. I can't see exactly where the oil is pouring from. It only pours out when we start the car. Any ideas where it may be coming from before I begin taking parts off.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

My first guess would be the front intake cam seal.

Second guess would be a turbo oil line if the car is turbo.

I'm going with a turbo oil line where it inserts at the radiator. So presumably the lower one.

It is one of the oil cooler lines. How do you crimp the line back on? I am including a picture I hope. This is from underneath the car.

I am very comfortable recommending these rebuilt oil cooler lines:

Otherwise, go with new Volvo parts as the aftermarket lines (e.g. Dorman) have a bad record for longevity.

EDIT: I will follow with another post, I gather it is simply unhooked not broken.

Is the surrounding metal clip still intact, and do you still have it?

Look at the top (other) oil cooler line, or the two transmission lines on the other end of the rad, you will see how the metal clip should seat.

Keep in mind there are also two gaskets/seals/o-rings on the end of the hose, that must be in place for a leak-free reinstall. And the metal clip has a front end and a back end.

I can't tell from the pic, but if you actually mean the hose came out of the crimped fitting not that the fitting just released (uninstalled) from the rad, then you need a new line. In that case see above and replace them both, they have a finite lifespan anyway.

Thanks for the replies. The car is on stands and not being driven. Luckily, my wife pulled over when the oil light came on and I towed it home. The engine sounded fine when I filled the car up with oil and started it for a couple of seconds to see where the leak was.

Everything looks to be intact. I believe it just came loose or blew off. I am not sure how to recrimp it. Can I cut the line above the metal collar and use two small hose clamps? Thanks.
