94 850 door chime wont turn off

Post by dianehb131 »

Hi
I have a 1994 850. The door open chime won't turn off at all and the interior lights stopped working. The ding, ding, ding sound is driving me insane. How do I get it to turn off and what does it have to do with the interior lights?

I hate that chime.

Rip out this relay from the panel under the dash kick panel. It's on the bottom row:

Chances are, one of your door switches is no longer working. It can sometimes be hard to track down which it is, though, especially as they are inside the doors themselves.

Does this affect the headlight reminder, of which i have none? I also have no other chimes for door, belts, etc.

These cars don't have one for the headlights, as they turn off when the car turns off. Now if you leave the parking lights on...

They're all controlled through that. I don't seem to recall a seatbelt chime either, just the overhead reminder lights which are also controlled by the relay.

If yours is missing/broken and you'd like to have it, I can send you mine...I sure don't want it

Huh... My lights go on in the overhead console but no noise. No big deal. I do recall the parking lights staying on with the key off... Too bad there isn't an alarm for that.

I was responding to the OP.
Since you appear to have a different problem,
you should probably start own thread.

Continuing with the issue at hand, if the fuses check out,
you may also have a bad "door closed "switch. That not unusual with these cars.
The hard part is that the switch is built into the door latch and to fix the switch,
you'll probably need a new latch assembly. Hopefully, it's just a fuse.

This issue of the interior dome lights stopped working and the door chimes keep going is upon me. I went to the gas station, filled up, jumped in and the ding, ding has not stopped since.

I checked the fuse box and saw where the fuse for that circuit was blown. When I replaced it everything came back, until I started the car and it blew the fuse again. Electrical troubleshooting is outside my comfort zone, but I am willing to do it. Can someone point me in the right direction? I am confident it may have something to do with the drivers side door but it is there I get stumped. Well, that and the $200+ price for a new door latch assembly.

Is there a way to get the dome lights working again? I really don't care about the door chime.
