Volvo guard alarm relay

Post by Tommty »

Hi!

been following alot of great DIY's from this site which have helped me through diffrent issues.

Swedish person here so don't expect the best grammar or the correct terms ;)

however, bought an volvo 850 GLT -97 a little while back, USA import. And recently i discovered that you can install
a remote to the central locking for a "keyless" use.

There is 2 diffrent systems for this i have seen "volvo guard 1" and "volvo guard 2", and i want to install VGA2.

for that you need a relay,horn,hood lock, and a glass break sensor.
the relay i have seen on all sites is black with a freen contact betwen 210-211 (for the glass break).

but my relay is grey:

does this mean i have to replace it with a black 210-211 relay? is this a special USA relay?
can i programe any VGA2 remote with this relay?

hope can understand the very fuzzy explained question.

It is not that we are ignoring you, it is simply that most of us just don't know. This board is largely populated by North Americans and very few of the cars with the various Guard alarm system variants were shipped to North America, nearly all of them came with the standard basic alarm system. As such, the pool of expertise here is quite shallow.

What we do have is resources. Under the repair database tab at the top of the page there are links to the electrical schematics and I do believe they cover all of the Guard alarms systems and their related sensors. What they don't do is detail what is going on inside of the relay module, it simply appears as a box in the schematics with no further information.

Due to the way they were scanned, the schematics are a bit of a mess in terms of pagination. The books are, more or less, arranged with odd page numbers in one group and even page numbers in another. Hopefully the schematics can be of help to you and I would also suggest that you post your question in the appropriate forum at http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/ - I think that the UK board might have more posters with hands on knowledge of the Guard systems.

Hey lee!

thanks alot for the post, i wasen't trying to put the blame on this forums. i have the same thread on 4 diffrent sites (2 Swedish,1 Norwegian and this one) and no one seems to know anything about this "grey" relay.

Brown = Dummy
Red = Basic
Black = VGA 1/2
Grey = ?

And the car thats on the topic was exported from USA to sweden which is why i made the post here, figured someone might know about it.

I will try and put a thread up on volvosforums.org.uk and see if they maybe know something about it.

Update!

vent by volvo today and they said its a USA relay for VGA2.

Can not be used by any other remoted then USA made ones because of the diffrent frequency.

So:

Red: Basic
Brown: Dummy
Black with a wider green contact: VGA 1 (Europe?)
Black with a smaller green contact: VG2 (Europe?)
Grey with a small green contact: VG2 USA

If anyone else has the same problem in the future.
