Any wrench happy A4 Owners out there? I trust you guys a lot. Looking at a 2000 Wagon 1.8 T for my wife. I'm not afraid to wrench but I'm hoping it's no worse than my 98 V70 as far as issues. She wants a wagon, but wants a different car in the driveway. Promise not to talk about this again on this forum.

I would suggest against one. I fix these for a local dealership constantly. You will be doing a lot more wrenching.

I'd disagree. I've had a few B5's and I'd put maintenance requirements as right on par with a modern volvo...neither is cheap.
Everyone complains about "service position " on B5's, but I love it. 20 minutes and you have full access to the t-belt and front of the longitudinal engine. The trick is to find a 1.8t that has records of regular synthetic oil changes.
