SRS airbag service urgent

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

SRS airbag service urgent

Post by dtropnevad05 »

Hi guys, it's been a while the Daughters S-80 has been running OK since dropping almost $3,000 in it. However I just got a call at work telling me that she has a "SRS Airbag Service Urgent" message and she is flipping out  . She also said that there is a lower position lamp something also. This has been on for something like a week or more. Can I reset the airbag lamp myself or does the car need to go into the stealer again?

Update:
OK my Daughter sent me a video showing the "Bulb Failure Dimmed Beam" (but no lamps are out) message flashing on and off sometimes it's only on a second other times it stays on for up to 5 seconds with 1-3 seconds between flashes :?: Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Could this be the cause of the airbag message also? She has about had it and frankly so have I. Looks like a new Dodge Dart is in her near future after we get this thing figured out. Have to say this car has opened my eyes as to the so called quality that Volvo is suppose to have. No seeing it not at all :(

Don

Dimmed bulb failure message can come on when the bulb is on the way out, or it it simply just doesnt like the bulb. You could change it anyway, make sure the contacts are nice and clean. SRS service can only be reset with a volvo tool such as a PPC, VADIS or VIDA (DiCE). Even if you clear it, you would still need to find the cause of course, otherwise the message is coming right back.. Might be as simple as a loose or oxidized connection for one of the airbags but you wont know until the code is pulled.

On the other hand, both could be related to an electrical issue. Are your battery and connections, grounds etc in good condition?

The S80 is the worst car Volvo have ever made reliability wise. Period. I say this as an owner of one. If ours wasnt as comfortable as it is we would get rid of ours.

Founds the small lamp in the headlamp burned out. Had a shop look at the SRS issue and they found a RT FT seat belt tensioner code. They reset it and told me if it comes back on the the have to install a resister into the connector and see if it goes out. If it does the tensioner is bad if it do not then the SRS box.
