Brittle coil wire harness

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Brittle coil wire harness

Post by stevedud »

This weekend I changed the spark plugs on my 2000 S80 2.9 and the looming around the wires connecting to the coils was so brittle, it would just break when touched.

Should I replace the looming or is it ok to have the wires exposed without it?

Also, I think the upper motor mount is bad. When I grabbed the bar going across the engine bay, which the motor mount is connected to, I could twist it easily. My son was also complaining that the car would shake when accelerating.

Is it supposed to twist easily?

Thanks for your advise.

Are you talking about the plastic sheath for the ignition wiring? Its certainly preferable to have that, but not essential. You want to be sure the wires arent sitting on sharp corners or anywhere that looks like they might short out.
The engine torque mount bar that goes across engine bay going bad would not explain a shudder, but would explain a thump or thunk as you move off from a stop.

I ordered a new upper motor mount and install this weekend. While I'm in there I'll rewrap the wires.
