Hesitation when I get on the gas.

Post by Braxxton401 »

Hello to everyone on here,

I own a 1998 Volvo C70, I have had this car for 2 years and it spent sometime parked in the backyard almost (9 months) but the problem I am having with my vehicle is, when I get on the gas and i want to go fast my vehicle feels like there is a hesitation coming from the motor it still manages to get up my desire speed (100 +) or whatever is but it just chugs cough hiccups all the way up thru the revs. Also for some more info at red lights, sometimes but everyday it gets the hiccups POM POM POM POM and then idles fine. And another thing is when I turn on the car in the morning it has a hard time idling correctly for a few seconds. Please any information about this will be greatly appreciated. I have spent a lot of money I don't have getting this car diagnose and have replaced several parts and need this fixed because she was fast when I got her and its one of the main reason I purchased the car.

Parts Replaced
-distributor cap
-rotor
-wireset
-Pugs (autolite dbl pltn)
-ignition coil
-air filter
-fuel filter

PLEASE HELP !!!! :x

Get rid of the Autolite double platinum plugs and replace them with standard Bosch Copper. Gap at .028". These cars DO NOT like Platinum plugs.

Also check the mass airflow sensor. Unplug it and see if the idle is improved - flooring it with the MAF unplugged will only bog the engine. Is the check engine light on at all?

Part of the problem may be the parts you have been buying and the other part may be the fact that it sat for so long.

After 9 months your gasoline is sour unless you used an additive like Sta-Bil. Even with Sta-Bil the gas won't be at peak performance.

You listed the parts that you have replaced but the only thing you listed a description of was the Double Platinum spark plugs. Those will never run right since the gap cannot be adjusted and it is way too wide. You need a single electrode spark plug and it needs to be gapped to 0.028".

The cap must be a Bosch.
The Rotor must be a Bosch.
The Spark Plug wires should be Bougicord or the IPD high performance wires. With anything else the car will run like crap.

You should be OK with about any fuel filter and air filter as far as performance goes.

I have never had to change a coil so I don't really know what is OK or not brand wise.

Make sure your muffler isn't plugged as well. If something sits in the back yard for 9 months little critters will make nests in any hole they can get into.

Thank you guys so i went and grabbed sparkplugs at the stealer and installed them car rides much better better idle but i still get a little hiccup at the light sometime and cant get it going on the gas, she goes but has a hiccup up thru the revs . The good thing this time i received an OBD code P0108 MAP, before i was never able to get a proper code read out, check engine will appear only when i try to get on the gas EXAMPLE "trying to make quick lane shift into the high speed lane or just wanting to go fast " but will never read out anything and will later disapear. But the OBD code P0108 MAP sensor that appeared this time can that be my problem i called the stealer and they want some serious Bucks $85 dollar diffrence compared to other auto parts stores (Mclaughin, Pepboys, Action Auto Parts) etc. As of the moment for me guys It sucks right now i am currently unemployeed and love my car ( My Volvo Ride) "Its how i introduce her to people" and i Will love to once again spank Infinity g35, BMW and Audi . No lie guys one time i kept up with a dam M3 in the highway , have raced my buddies A6 (not the v8) but the turbo and THE N/A also i raced My neighbors 2003 BMW 330I in flew rite by it LMAO . At the time of puchase when i first got the c70 i did not realized i have purchased a "HELL OF A BEAST" . love my ride and will try my best to get her back up to date once again. I will update this as soon as i get the sensor changed And once again thank you guys for the help and guidence with this its greatly appreciated.

We can lead you to water but we can't make you drink. Yes, the aftermarket MAF sensors are cheaper. No, they won't work.

Before you replace it at all try to clean it. Use MAF cleaner and just spray it on and let it dry. Don't scrub or even touch the sensor. For that matter, don't even look at it for too long. They are very sensitive.

You can also use the MAF cleaner to clean the connections at the connector while you are at it. MAF cleaner is cheap when compared to a new sensor so it is definitely worth a try.
