When you say to "mount it directly behind the fuel filter ...Butt it right to the back of the filter" what is behind? which side is the back? Do you install the CV on the side of the line from the gas tank to the filter or on the side of the line from the filter to the engine? I don't want to put the valve where it will cause overpressure. Regards.

Install was relatively easy. Installed the cv on a new fuel filter. Took 1hour to remove the f&@xing rusted retaining bolt. Had to trim the edge of the cv in order for the compression nut to fit. Didn't help the hard start though. Starter died few weeks later. Replaced starter. Car now starts 1st try. Yeaaay.

I am not sure this mod is necessary as most fuel pumps (Bosch included) have a built-in check valve already.

Only necessary if you don't want to spend money on a new FP.

and the internal check valve fails in 99s and 2000s (AWDs) which is why these DO work

Unfortunately no, but picture the fuel filter (look under your car) than picture a (approx.) 4" brass rod butted to the back of it.

I just got my check valve. I have a 2000 xc se v70 California car . Should I just cut the fuel line or are you saying compress /attach the check valve to the filter nipple ? and use the extra barb to press on the fuel line clip?

guys I would really appriciate a picture as I amd totaly fricking confused on how to install this. the way I see it it has to be installed inline with the fuel line so I have to cut the existing line before or after the fuel line.

Yes, you do
Buy yourself a new fuel filter, (you probably need it anyway), than attach the CV to the new filter first
Then remove your old filter, attach the front portion new filter with the attached CV behind it.
Measure, than cut the line and attach it to the rear of the new assembly
