Mystery Noise Discovered

Happy New Year to all. Could anyone tell me what the part in the picture marked with the star is. It is making an awful knocking sound . Not all knocks come from the engine . This sound has haunted me for about two months now and finally I got the car up on all fours ,had a friend shift the gears with the engine running and EUREKA the sound was no longer a mystery, was not going to drive me batty , and not a bad catalytic converter , or a something something in the gas tank , you know how it goes when we try to describe a noise . So as soon as I figure out how to include the video footage and sound I will do so but in the meantime I'm hoping that someone of you could tell me the part name in order to purchase it and hopefully one of you wise souls out there know it and may have some advise on the hurdles I might encounter whilst installing and of course removing the part. I'm hoping that it might be as simple as removing what looks like a fat washer holding in a fatter disc of rubber.Thanks for bothering to read this.

I have drawn a star around the mount /bushing I'm referring to and thanks to holler1 for the picture.

Looks like you need to tighten #12. Use some locktite on it and it will stay tight.

Thank you so much , that makes perfect sense. BTW is this a common occurence or is this being caused by some deeper rooted vibration somewhere along the line or just simple nothingness. Again, thanks!

I don't have enough experience with that torque tube to say if it occurs often. I can see where any looseness in that joint would cause additional vibration. It stands to reason that the busing would shrink over time due to degradation. Once smaller ,it would allow enough space to vibrate the bolt loose. Luckily, the locking compound (loctite etc) will fill the gap between the bolt threads and bolt and reduce the vibration. It also locks out corrosion so the bolt will come out some day if needed.

14 years in New England taught me well to love locking compounds. The harsh cold alone can change the dimensions on some of the parts and corrosion is on every bolt not properly sealed ,painted or undercoated

Also the normal blue loctite should be sufficient, the red stuff has to be heated in order to get it out.

I agree I like loctite as well, keeps the threads clear similar to antiseize but with added benefits.

The bush on the Viscous coupling housing you are showing, like any old rubber/metal bush do fail. I/m assuming you have removed the bolt and washer to check it is still intact? Had to change this and the nose bearing on the viscous coupling on my V70XC which has the same parts.

Alright well since this morning I have gone under the car ,removed and inspected the bolt and there was no sign of rust nor damage etc. Now I don't know for with 100% certainty if that bolt was slighty loose or not ,didn't feel like it but never the less I raised the torque tube up as high as the floor jack would take it. Before I say anymore aboout that , I was able to lightly pry out the bushing and it looked fine except for very very slight ware on a millimeter or less line around the circumference of it. So no cracks ,nothing , looked as close to new as could be.
So I screwed the bolt back inwith the washer ,also in solid condition and finished tightening with an air gun. Thinking that that was it ,job done, I took it for a ride and 15 seconds away here's the noise again , not as severe though but definitly there. I put it back up , two rear wheels on ramps and the front supported with two floor jacks. So front wheels able to rotate with the engine running and the two rear were staionary. Just that point there I suspect might be my problem in diagnosing the problem. Some other post from a couple of years ago stated that he had the same noise and he took the car to a shop and they fixed it by installing a new bushing with a "special" device and voila , problem fixed . I'm wondring what kind of a device is this given that I was able to remove the bushing with my finger tips and press it in as far as it would possibly go with my hand and also given that there is a steel or at least strong metal tub running through the bushing , it can't be crushed up into place. But anyway his problem was solved , hmmm!
I'm confused ,is there something other than the bushing ,washer and bolt that can come into play here. I have taken another video today after the installation to show the movement of the differntial and the torque tube etc. Thanks again guys and gals.
