V70 Problems

I have a couple of problems with our 98 V70:

1. No water comes out the rear washer nozzle. I have attempted to find the in-line check valve for the rear nozzle but unsuccessful so far. I removed the cover over the right rear speaker next to tailgate and there was a white plastic coupling in the tubing. I pulled apart and tried washer - no water. Pump appears to work OK. Is it a common pump for front and rear?

2. Also the indicator light for the rear hatch stays on. Checked that tailgate was securely shut but light still stays on. This just happened today for first time.

Believe the pump for the rear is just under the pump for the front...sort of hard to see but look for it. I would try some compressed air in the plastic tube. In regards to your tail gate, I'd say that the latch isn't aligned well. Where the latch connects on the car itself (not the tail gate) there are 2 screws. You might try loosening them and moving them a tad to see if that helps.

I had this problem too. Found that a connector in the water tubing under the floor on the right hand side of the load bay had disconnected itself. Everytime the rear w/w was used the underfloor area got a generous soaking!

Lift up the load area floor, including the floor panel to the right of the spare wheel cover section (it's not too easy to get up as it's held down with hefty spring clips) and you should see the plastic washer tube - and hopefully the cause of your problem. Mine is a UK RHD drive car, so I don't know if the routing of the tubing is the same on LHD models.

The washer bottle isn't too bad to get to - you need to take the front RH wheel off and work from underneath. The whole system is pretty simple - just a bit fiddly. I've also had blockages in the headlamp washer system, but it's just a matter of working your way back from the water outlet jet - it's only plastic tubing after all!
