K&N Air Filter - after 10 years vs. new - Photos

Post by matthew1 »

I draw the line at a decade. Especially since the mating surface has become disfigured, and in recent months has been difficult to seat on the air filter housing.

I cleaned it properly twice, once with the proper bath and oil spray, the second time with just bath. I never had trouble with the oil coating, whether new or after my application. (It fouls MAFs.) I knocked out dust and debris dozens and dozens of times, probably every 2nd time I ever opened the hood, thus the slow disfigurement of the filter.

For comparison is the new K&N air filter I just got from Amazon.

It helps this site if you use that link and the other Amazon link at the top of all forum pages. I never get products for free, and this air filter is no exception. I pay full (or sale, when I catch them) prices just like you do for my Volvo parts and tools. Thanks!

Yes. It's a quality product, nevermind the claimed 1-2 hp gain.

Nice close-ups.
Don't over service the filter.
The big crud doesn't go through, but helps stop the small stuff.
