850 non turbo short in power

Post by thor777 »

Hi.
I previously changed the spark plugs as the engine was running very rough and short of power - everything improved and it was running like a new car. After about a month, suddenly the same problem came back - checked the spark plugs - all cylinders are getting a spark. I then replaced the dist cap and rotor -( still waiting on new leads to arrive) - but no change to lack of power problem - engine still sounds and feels like its running on 4 cylinders - its a 10 valve / !995 - 240k .....auto.
hate to keep buying new parts till I actually find out whats really wrong with the car..any advice much appreciated...

Have you either jammed open or replaced the airbox thermostat? The NA cars will run like crap after the thermostat fails. Most of us just use something to force it to the cold air side and forget about it. The airbox thermostat is one of those 100% failure rate parts so all of them need to be addressed one way or the other.

Aren't you experiencing some ridiculous levels of heat down under? I don't know what this might cause but maybe the fuel is acting up with the heat being so out of line.

That makes sense! Heating 45C air over the exhaust manifold, you could literally be starving the intake of air which is less dense, knock sensor could be retarding spark and you have the 10 valve which has less area to pull into the combustion chamber
