Seat Belt light

Post by wmcallen »

2001 S40-
Took the passenger seat out completely (does not have heated seats) to have leather Seat bottom restiched.
Disconnected two connectors under the seat. One green that had two black wires that seemed to go to the Seat Belt lock.
The other was a orange/purple connector that had two wires wrapped in an orange braided plastic sheath that went up into the Seat Back. After the sewing was done, put the seat back in, and connected both connectors. Now have icon light on the dash that looks like a sideways view of a man with a fat stomach. I assume this is the seat belt indicator. Light will not go off, even when you connect the passenger seat belt with seat empty. The "chime" still works properly for the Driver side seat. Is there a connection problem or some kind of "reset" needed??

is this Image the light you're talking about?
If so, it is, according to the S40 Owner's manual:
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)
If the light comes on (or stays on after the vehicle has started), the SRS diagnostic system has detected a fault. Drive to an authorized Volvo retailer for an inspection of the system. See the SRS section for more information.
AKA. an airbag light. The wire connected to the seat back is probably going to the airbag in the side of the seat.
