Could bad PCV system cause engine misfire?

Post by gvanzant1 »

I suspect I have a bad PCV due to the amount of oil leaking from various places, including my distributor. Could this cause an engine misfire? I get ODBII codes for "multiple engine misfire". Replacing the PCV seems a huge hassle since it's located under the manifold. I know it needs to be done but I'm wondering if replacing the PCV will cure my misfire problem. I replace the distributor cap and rotor a couple weeks ago and it still misfires. The old cap did have oil build-up on the contacts. I've also replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the MAF Sensor and tried a couple tank fulls of Premium gas. Still misfires.

Step 1: Overhaul the PCV:

Step 2: Replace Rear cam seals (SKF 11809 $10 at local Napa store):

Step 3, clean or replace cap/rotor.
Maybe time for new Bougicord too ($55).

Yeah, an oil-coated cam sensor or distributor could do that.
