Since changing out a set of these struts (F&R) can run close to $1,400 and that's just parts, no labor, I am wondering if anyone has bypassed the electrics ("soft, sporty, ultimate" or some such settings and just installed Bilsteins or Konis...or is it not possible to fit?
(WRONG I went back in and had them look/see/drive. All 4 are shot and PARTS ALONE are $3,300. Not kidding! (Thats a Volvo dealer though).Figure at least another $800 for all that labor? I could get a pretty nice 850 for that!

Simple answer:
Not really
You can put standard AWD shocks and struts in, but the headlights won't work as they're tied to the electronics plus the springs which are soft do NOT match up at all and the ride is just plain odd

Of course, why would you ask that?
Those are stock R shocks

I also read that Sachs is an OE supplier. But for what? I compared some PNs last night that were supposed to be the right ones for the V70R and none matched (and yes, they said the PNs were current with Volvo),
I dunno! Jimmy: what is 4C?

4C is the name Volvo gave the electrically controlled dampers. Continually Controlled Chassis Concept.
Regular shocks usually are Sachs and Nivomats are Boge.
The shocks and struts on P2R's were supplied for production by Tenneco/Monroe.
I listed the Monroe OE Spectrum part numbers. If you want Volvo part numbers you'll have to pay about $200 each for that labeling and re-boxing.

Ahhhhhh! Many thanks!
I just wrote an e-mail to Stefan Jacoby, CEO Volvo Cars Worldwide, giving him my story and asking him to please send a full set of the shocks/struts to my house and I would gladly provide the labor. I also asked for a rep to be sent to my house to take a look at the other issues and please do what they can.
Expectations? None. Hope? Always.
