This video will show you have to replace the cabin air filter on your Volvo S70, V70 or 850. I have seen these things simply rotted out. They should be replaced every 2 years or 20,000 miles.

Here in Georgia, the 20k life-cycle is a little bit too long considering the HVAC duty cycle and high pollen count. I say twice a year maybe. (Mine come out almost clogged with dust and bugs.)
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Wow, at least the material will hold up that long. Driving off road will also cause them to get dirty fast.

Thanks for the video. I just did the job - took 15 mins with hand tools. It was a T-25 bit. I also removed the 3rd screw (near the center) to give myself more clearance to clean out the recess where the filter is.
Mine was last done 50k miles ago according to the sticker, with a volvo brand filter, which was still intact, just dirty with a few leaves.

Last year I tried a Purolator brand cabin air filter and it did not fit and had to be modified using scissors! I tried a different one this year, a chinese made MicroGard (O'Reilly Auto Parts) 3650. It fits perfectly because it has a plastic frame that's snug in the factory cabin air filter box. It is not as sturdy as the Volvo brand which has a thicker frame, thicker pleats, and more adhesive securing the pleats. It works fine for pollen season and light duty, but I don't think it will survive multiple heavy winters or heavy desert dust. Not a big deal to me since I replace every spring. Volvo brand cabin air filter is the best I've found so far.
