fixed cracked fuel pump housing
and of course my newly purchased used 2000 s80 had a fuel leak in the pumps plastic housing. Pulled the seats; bottom, bolster, and larger upright back. (ask me how) Removed access panel to the top of fuel pump. Visually located the three small cracks that were leaking fuel. Cleaned with a grease remover, dried very good. Scrapped the surface with a sharp knife, razor to prepare for a fix with JB weld. Has not leaked since. Oh forgot to mention I am a girl! lol

if you smell gas in your car, your garage, or see any signs of "dirty" gas leak on the ground or garage floor. it is most likely the fuel pump upper plastic housing.

Thanks Jimmy I checked with dealer first. They wont do anything to my car under recall now that it is 13 years old. And the fuel pump is working fine. just had that leak....but no more.

The recall WAS for cracked housings - NOT for the pump not working. It was particularly a problem in the hot southern states. Call Volvo Customer Care 1-800-458-1552, you may get a different answer. I don't know if there is a time limit on the recall.

Going to call them tomorrow. will post results
Called this morning. Spoke with Lisa in Volvo customer care. My particular car was not part of the fuel pump recall. I said okay. so my fuel pump was not one of the defective ones? she just repeated that it was not part of the recall.

HA! How's that for side-stepping the question?
Personally, I would be leary of a JB Weld repair of a part like that, particularly if it is containing pressurized fuel. Keep an eye on it - vibration and temperature fluctuations could easily cause it to crack again. I'm real cautious when it comes to fuel systems.

I have been visually checking the garage floor where I park and have been on alert for gas smell in my car. So far no signs of reoccurring leak. but I am daily cautious in regard. More then likely I will replace it in a couple months regardless if it is still holding well or not. Thank you!
