I own a 1995 960 Sedan.
Recently I have been having major stalling issues. When the check engine light comes on, I find myself running on only 3 cylinders. Then when I try to come to a stop, the engine shuts off and all the dash lights come on.
The diagnostic codes which I pull from the A-2 socket are 1-1-3 and 1-1-5
Apparently
1-1-3 is an injector issue either dealing with all injectors or only half of them
1-1-5 is either a non-existent code or deals with the oxygen sensor
the issue with the codes, is that books, or online guides are vague about what the codes mean. They also do not differentiate very well between different years because there seems to be a difference. (they only say "earlier models" or "later models" and I have no idea what that means)
My ECM (engine control module) is a Motronic 1.8 distributorless system.
I only have this problem when running the A/C which seems to overheat my engine. All fluids have been checked and are new. I recently had my timing gears repositioned at a Volvo dealer because a previous owner had taken it to the shop and for whatever reason, the timing gears were placed about one tooth off. I had thought that the timing was the source of the overheating, but today, the problem happened again. I had driven it for about 100 miles over the last 2 days with the A/C on with no problems which I was never able to do before.
I have seen many posts about issues with stalling, but none are very specific, nor do they tell exactly what to fix, or if the problem was resolved.
I don't want to hear anything about "take it to the dealer shop" because I've done that, the problem is still there, and it costs way too much, and most likely I am able to do the repairs myself.
I know how to read codes and I know how to look up what they mean.
I want someone to tell me what is wrong and how to fix it. Simple as that.

update, I'm leaning more towards the issue being overheating. I've checked all my injectors, the fuel rail, the fuel line, and they all seem to be running fine.
If I leave the car to sit for at least a day, I am able to run the car (with the A/C) for around 50-100 miles before the problem starts up again.
also, my engine seems to take forever to cool down
may this be a problem in the cooling system? I've flushed the radiator twice but maybe there is something blocking the flow of the coolant?
I have one more day before I give up and take it back to the shop but I really don't want to spend the money if I can figure this out.
I'll keep you updated on my progress, and if I do end up taking it to the shop, I will have the mechanic explain to me what was wrong and how it was fixed and I will then relay this all to you in case someone runs into the same issue down the road.

OK, so I couldn't figure anything out so I gave in and took my car to the dealer.
It's been 3 days so far and I haven't had any trouble at all.
They replaced the injector sensor or something like that. (had a difficult time understanding what the mechanic was saying)

I am currently having the same problems with my Volvo 95' 960. I have had this problem reoccurring since I first got the car. It happens when the outside temp is high 80F+, when I'm runnig my air conditioning, driving below 40mph, and when my temperature guage is not at the 12 o'clock position. After putting hundereds of dollars into replacing the O2 sensor, and fuel injectors, I found out through a forum that it was due to a dirty Idle Air vaulve. I had my mechanic clean it, and it worked fine until the next summer, then he cleaned it again, and it works fine after that. It's an annoying problem and scarry sometimes whe you car stalls in the middle of traffic, but the fix is easy and cheap.
I hope this helps.
