'99 S80 HU-801 ProLogic Issue (right front channel dead)

Post by boosted5cyl »

So I have the HU-801 in my s80. For some reason, when pro logic is selected the right channel is practically dead. It comes though very muted and distorted. Ill have to check again, but I think I get zero on the right if I run the center knob all the way down and then as I turn up the center channel the right channel comes in but low volume and clipped\distorted to high hell.
Under three channel mode or "regular" all channels work fine.

Any ideas? Is this more likely to be a head unit or amp issue? Might seem silly for such an old car but the pro logic system is nice in this car and I'd like to get it running right again.

Obviously a H/U issue if it works in the other modes.
The processor is part of the radio with this and all other later models, unlike a 900-901 which has a separate Dolby processor
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

Thanks for chiming in JRL
Didn't want to make that assumption when I don't know how the amp is wired and so on. For all I know it could have separate circuits for the prologic feed....
When (if) I finally get around to swapping stuff out I'll post back with the outcome.
